Supporting Thames Valley Berkshire LEP in tackling labour market challenges

News Published on 10 August 2020

We are proud to have worked with our client Thames Valley Berkshire LEP to deliver SignedUp Skills to the region.

Thousands of Berkshire based jobs, apprenticeships and courses are now able to be viewed in one central place. BerkshireOpportunities.co.uk makes use of PDMS’ employment and skills platform – SignedUp Skills – to make local employment and skills information more accessible. Thames Valley Berkshire LEP commissioned the project in response to the economic impact of Covid-19 facing the local economy.

Visitors to Berkshire Opportunities can use the website to search for employment, apprenticeship and course opportunities; view information on the region’s priority sectors including real time employment opportunities; or interact with a comprehensive career directory that comes with information to help users better understand different job roles.

According to the latest available job retention scheme statistics, 9.4 million employments had been placed on furlough up to 30th June 2020 and the Office for Budget Responsibility estimates at least 10% of furloughed workers will become unemployed.

Alison Webster, CEO of Thames Valley Berkshire LEP, said:

“The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented effect on the health and economy of Berkshire and will likely result in significant consequences for the area for some time. Thames Valley Berkshire LEP recognises the challenges local residents and employers now face and has responded through the rapid launch of an online opportunities portal that will not only support job seekers in their immediate career, training and education goals, but have a positive impact on the skills and development landscape in Berkshire for years to come.”

Richard Graham, Head of SignedUp at PDMS said,

“Despite the economic impact of Covid-19, there are lots of employment opportunities in Berkshire and we are pleased to be supporting the LEP to make these opportunities more accessible. Our employment and skills platform meant we were able to rapidly deploy Berkshire Opportunities and we hope to launch similar online services in other regions around the UK in the coming months.”
