PDMS opens doors for another year of work experience
PDMS welcomed three students from St Ninian’s High School to join the Isle of Man office and it was fantastic to have such great talent join our teams for the week!
We value the importance of work experience for personal and professional development and see it as a rewarding experience for both student and staff. Each year, PDMS actively supports work experience and internship placements for all levels in the Isle of Man and Glasgow offices, from short-term high school experience to University sandwich-year placements. We look forward to having more students joining us throughout this year!
David Cowin joined the support team and worked with a range of different products and sites provided by PDMS. Senior Developer, Kerry Lindsay commented on his work:
“David has experienced various roles within a development team this week, including Infrastructure, Analysis, Design, Development and Testing. He’s worked really hard following tutorials on HTML and CSS which he’s then applied to create his own web pages in his own designs. He also used Adobe Illustrator to create design layouts without any previous experience. The work David has produced is of a high standard and I’m impressed that he’s worked through the tasks he was given, and repeatedly referred back to the tutorials to improve his knowledge.”
Hannah Lancaster worked with the Design Team, developing a mock-up website for the Construction Industry amongst other challenges. She was mentored by Graphic Designer, Georgia Vernon, who had some great feedback for Hannah:
“Hannah has been challenged with designing and building her own website and interacting with clients to meet their requirements and needs. Hannah has really impressed us this week by showing her keen eye for graphic design and communicating with a client to understand the needs of a project given. The work Hannah has produced is of a high standard and to a point where one of the graphics she has created is going to be used on a local cycling teams’ jersey!”
Philana Lunn worked with the Marketing and employed.im teams in developing some excellent content for the employed.im website. Philana visited some of her fellow students on their work experience placements in different industries around the Island and wrote articles about their time on work experience. Marketing Director Joanne Pontee commented on Philana's work experience:
“It’s been great to have Philana join us this week, her level of professionalism and maturity has really impressed me. We encourage students to push themselves out of their comfort zone with this placement by asking them to carry out interviews and take photos of their peers. Most students who come to us on this placement are very daunted by the prospect of this task – not Philana! She’s taken to this work like a duck to water and I really hope she’s gained a lot from her time with PDMS.”
