Isle of Man Ship Registry

The Isle of Man Ship Registry (IOMSR), a Category One member of the Red Ensign Group, has been recognised as one of the premier ship registries globally since its establishment as an international register in 1984. It is renowned for offering clients 24/7 support to meet international demands and is an ISO 9001- and 14000-certified organisation. The IOMSR consistently exceeds the standards expected of a modern Flag State, maintaining a reputation for efficiency and excellence in the Shipping Industry State Performance table.

The challenge

Disparate systems limiting growth and efficiency

The IOMSR was using several disparate legacy PC and paper-based systems to manage its business-critical processes. These outdated systems were insufficient to support the registry’s growth and efficiency objectives and relied heavily on manual processes. Due to its recent growth, it became essential for the IOMSR to adopt a centralised and comprehensive system to better support its services and growing client base.

The solution

Joined-up processes in one central system

IOMSR partnered with PDMS to address these challenges. Our analysts worked closely with the IOMSR team to identify their specific needs and requirements. Based on these insights, our developers formulated a detailed plan to create a system which digitalised the manual processes previously in place. The solution was MARIS, a platform designed to consolidate all the registry’s operations into a single, integrated system.

The project

The MARIS system consolidated IOMSR data and processes into one central system. Key data required for the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Clarkson’s could be generated and extracted quickly and easily, enabling the registry to adopt a proactive rather than reactive approach.

The MARIS system has been pivotal to the IOMSR’s operations for several years. PDMS has collaborated with the IOMSR team to enhance and improve the system, including the integration of Digital Signing technology. This collaboration ensured that MARIS evolved to meet the registry's growing and changing needs.

The results

The platform significantly improved efficiency, particularly in generating certificates and required documentation, which were previously produced manually. By producing digitally signed electronic certificates, MARIS achieved substantial cost savings by eliminating the need for paper certificates.

MARIS has transformed the IOMSR’s operations, aligning with its reputation as a world-class registry and supporting its mission to provide high-quality, efficient services to its global client base. The platform's continued evolution and enhancement ensure that the IOMSR remains at the forefront of the maritime industry, meeting and exceeding international standards.

Check out what our customers think

All of the Ship Registry’s key business data is now entered, stored and accessed through one central system, which has resulted in considerable time savings as staff no longer have to enter the same information into different computer systems or waste time trawling through filing cabinets or ring binders looking for further information on vessels.
