10 year birthday for Isle of Man Government Website

Monday, 20 June 2005

www.gov.im, the Isle of Man Government website, is celebrating its tenth birthday.

From its first launch the website was conceived as a Government "portal" playing host to all of the Isle of Man Government Departments, Statutory Boards and Offices, a vision many other Governments are unable to achieve and sustain.

The success of the website has been a testament to the collaborative working partnership between IOM Government, through Treasury Information Systems Division, and PDMS the technology partners who have developed and supported the portal throughout the ten years.

When first launched in June 1995 the website started off with 80 pages of index information on 22 Government Agencies and received some 20,000 visitors in its first year of life.

In its ten years the website has grown into a portal providing 8,000 pages of information, 5,000 documents and 15,000 images for 80 Government Agencies. Visitors to the website now regularly top 300,000 per month from all over the world.

During 2003 the portal web pages for all Government Agencies were redesigned for greater consistency and usability, and enable Agencies to edit their web content in real time using the latest Microsoft .NET framework.

Future development of Gov.im portal will see the delivery of transactional services emerging from the JUPITER programme of work. This will provide better, faster and more convenient ways for citizens, businesses and visitors to access Government services directly through a variety of channels such as mobile devices and kiosks.
