Local software company launches new initiativesPDMS took the opportunity to officially launch several new initiatives at their recent presentation and exhibition "Projects with a Purpose" held at the Hilton Hotel. With over 70 members of the Island's business community attending, the seminar was judged a great success, and will be followed by future seminars covering a variety of IT related topics. The announcements made at the presentation were in relation to PDMS' new hosting and consultancy services. The local software company has extended its service offerings to include the hosting of business applications and databases and offers businesses a choice of hosting options depending on their own individual requirements. The hosting solutions are available not only to support PDMS' bespoke software developments but also, depending on technical architecture, for third party business systems or any combination of the two. In addition, PDMS has also launched a new consultancy service which includes IT audits, aimed at helping businesses identify areas where the effective application of information technology can help them improve business performance. The company, which has a long track record of providing consultancy services to both the private and public sector both on and off the Island, has also received accreditation by the Department of Trade & Industry to provide consultancy services under its Business Support Services Scheme. Chris Gledhill, Managing Director, commented, "We are really excited about these new developments which compliment our existing software development services and enable us to offer our clients totally integrated business solutions". In respect of the new hosting services he added, "We are seeing a growing trend towards outsourcing not least because of the potential cost savings it brings. Clients can outsource their application and database hosting to PDMS, and we can concentrate our skills and expertise on optimising their business systems, allowing them to focus on their core business activities". Explaining the rationale behind the new consultancy service, Chris explained, "Our aim has always been to help organisations improve their business through the effective application of information and communication technology. Our new IT audit provides a structured framework for identifying opportunities or trouble shooting problem areas in relation to an organisation's IT and business systems infrastructure" . The accreditation by the DTI means that some local businesses may be able to apply for funding towards the costs of an IT audit or other consultancy services provided by PDMS. The DTI's Business Support Service (www.gov.im/dti/grants/bss) in conjunction with Salford University, allows eligible companies to apply for 50% of e-business and IT consultancy costs for up to 15 days consultancy work and up to a further 5 days work for implementation. |
