PDMS sponsor International Criminal Justice Event

The importance of IT systems for reducing and preventing crime is invaluable and having considerable expertise in this area, software company PDMS Limited were one of the key sponsors of the International Criminal Justice Conference which took place at the Villa Marina conference centre in Douglas this week. The conference brought together delegates from across the world to highlight and share best practice around reducing crime and re-offending through a strategic and joined up approach to the criminal justice system.

Chris Gledhill, managing director of PDMS said: "Supporting this conference was a natural choice for us since a good part of our client work involves developing systems for law enforcement organisations and agencies That the Isle of Man was selected as the location for this International event is testimony to the professional excellence in criminal justice found here. We were proud to be part of the event."

PDMS is the company behind the Police National Statistical Database (PNSD) used by all police forces in England and Wales. It revolutionises updating and access to crime and user satisfaction data from each of the UK's police force. In addition, PDMS also developed the Police National Legal Database (PNLD), a national Police resource that has become fundamental to UK policing services along with the Police FAQ database, an online information source for both police call handlers and the general public. All three projects are based on FoundationsTM, PDMS's own .Net-based software development framework, which allows high performance applications to be customised to meet specific needs faster, cheaper and better than bespoke or off-the-self solutions.

Conference speakers included: Judge David Fletcher, of North Liverpool Community Justice Centre, Helen Bowen, a barrister and restorative justice trainer from New Zealand, Margareta Lindholm, vice-president of CEP the European organisation for probation, Professor Mario Paparozzi, chairman of the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of North Carolina, Professor Mark Bellis, an expert advisor on drug prevention to the United Nations (UNODC), and Professor Thoroddur Bjarnason, from the University of Iceland.
